1. Introduction

Mochipal (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is an AI-powered virtual pet companion available on iOS. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Mochipal.

By using Mochipal, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Pet name and your name — used to personalize your experience. Stored locally on your device.
  • Text messages to your pet — processed by our AI service to generate responses. Not stored on our servers after processing.

Voice Data

  • Speech recognition — processed entirely on your device using Apple's built-in speech recognition. Audio is never sent to our servers.
  • Ambient listening (optional) — when enabled, the app listens for trigger phrases (e.g., “Hey Mochi”) and ambient speech. All speech processing happens on-device. Only the resulting text transcription may be sent to our AI service for response generation.

Camera / Face Data

  • Face awareness (optional, premium feature) — uses on-device ML Kit to detect facial expressions (smile, eye openness). Camera data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted, stored, or sent to any server.
  • No photos or videos are captured or stored.

Subscription Information

  • Subscription purchases are managed by Apple through the App Store and by RevenueCat for subscription management. We do not collect or store your payment information directly.
  • RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID to manage your subscription status.

Analytics Data

  • We use Mixpanel for basic product analytics (feature usage, app events). This data is anonymized and does not include personal information, voice data, or message content.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and personalize the Mochipal experience (pet reactions, AI responses, mood system)
  • To process your messages and generate AI pet responses
  • To manage your subscription status
  • To improve the app through anonymized analytics

4. Third-Party Services

Mochipal uses the following third-party services:

  • Google Gemini (via our Cloudflare Worker proxy) — processes text messages to generate pet personality responses. Text is sent to Google's API and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
  • RevenueCat — manages subscription state. Subject to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
  • Mixpanel — anonymized product analytics. Subject to Mixpanel's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple Speech Recognition — on-device speech-to-text processing. No data leaves your device.
  • Google ML Kit — on-device face detection. No data leaves your device.

5. Data Storage

Mochipal stores all pet data, preferences, and interaction history locally on your device using encrypted storage (MMKV). We do not maintain user accounts or store personal data on our servers.

Your AI conversation context is sent to our secure proxy server for processing and is not retained after the response is generated.

6. Microphone & Camera Usage

Mochipal requests microphone and camera permissions only when you enable the respective features:

  • Microphone — used for speech recognition (talk to your pet). All audio processing is on-device.
  • Camera — used for face awareness (pet reacts to your expressions). All processing is on-device. No images are captured or stored.

You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.

7. Children's Privacy

Mochipal is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Data Retention

Since all personal data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data. We do not retain any personal data on our servers.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your data (stored locally on your device)
  • Delete your data by deleting the app
  • Disable microphone and camera access at any time
  • Opt out of analytics by contacting us
  • Request information about data processing

10. Data Security

We take data security seriously. All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption. Local data is stored using encrypted MMKV storage. On-device processing (speech, face detection) ensures sensitive data never leaves your device.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Your continued use of Mochipal after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
